Yup, 2019.
No, it’s not a typo!
Last year I organised 3 meet ups – 2 in Dewsbury and 1 in Harrogate. I also attended Sew Up North in Leeds. But I didn’t blog and show you all the pics of the amazing times we had. Sorry! But with another little mini meet up this Monday I thought I’d post over the next 3 days and share with you what we got up to, and wet your appetite for this years’ sewcial meet ups.
Our first one was on Wednesday the 6th March. Weekdays aren’t the best days for meet ups due to people having work commitments, but Wednesdays are a fab day to visit Dewsbury if fabric shopping is your thing. As well at the main shops we visit, it’s also market day.
We met in our usual spot, Wetherspoons. There were new faces and old (old as in old friends!). And also the added surprise of Janet coming – Janet was on the 2019 series of the GBSB and it was being aired during the time of our meet up. Janet had been to previous meet-ups and many of us already knew her, but we couldn’t help being a little bit star struck! I was dying to quiz her about how she got on and if she won, but I knew her lips would be tightly sealed and we’d all have to wait and see!
So without further ado, the photos…………
Meeting in Weatherspoons
A spot of fabric shopping – I’m not sure why I wasn’t my usual trigger happy self with the camera, sorry!
I love the pics of Jen getting all excited in Lucky Fashions! I’m not sure what I was doing, maybe playing hide and seek amongst the rolls of fabric and it looks like I’ve been found!
Instead of heading back to spoons we had coffee, sandwiches and cake in the Creative Craft centre, had a look and what we’d been buying, and I had a cheeky selfie with Janet 🐝
We also had a pattern and fabric swap, which is often more exciting that shopping. Well is cos it’s free, which means free clothes! It’s a bit like going into your favourite clothes shop and the assistants telling you to help yourself! Not that us sewers have favourite clothes shops!
Here’s my spoils from the swap – I made a top with the stripy fabric which I made a Molly Top from and have absolutely worn it to death. Thanks Chris for fetching this😘

And a big THANKYOU to Sue who brought me a lovely handmade – the caption is definitely me!!
The next Dewsbury meet up was in July – a Saturday, which are always a bit busier.
Obviously we met in spoons……. and then hit the shops!
Looking back through my camera I was a bit rubbish and really didn’t take many photos🙈. Maybe because I’d gotten out of blogging, I don’t know, but I did make up for it and took quite a lot a #handmadeharrogate which I’ll be posting tomorrow.
Until then, cheerio
Ali x
PS THE LAST PHOTO – I THINK I NEED TO GIVE A PRIZE FOR THE BEST CAPTION OF WHAT HELEN – ON THE LEFT IN THE LAST PHOTO – IS THINKING!
Helen’s kept her eye on the ball here… and spotted a fabric she really likes and is plotting how to acquire some for herself before she leaves town, how much she’d need, and also trying to remember how much the pattern she wants to use with it actually takes… and where was it ??? 🙀 All requiring serious thought and careful planning.
Lovely photos, Ali, and you’re forgiven in this quarter for the … ahem, “delay” in posting. xxx
You’ve definitely got Helen sussed Del! xx
🤣 🤣
I remember Janet- she was local to me and appeared in our local paper. Spotted Margaret aka crafty creek too.
Yea, I forgot Janet is from your neck of the woods. You should get together and organise a meet up near you xx
What a jolly-looking crew! I know some of the faces from blogs. I’m glad you had a fun time.
We always have a great time when we’re together, whether there’s 2 or 22 of us😍
