Birthday Cake Singer Sewing Machine!

Originally posted on thecraftycreek:
I’ve got a big birthday this weekend so I’ve got 12 friends for dinner tomorrow night and I’ve just made myself a birthday cake, a few people have said ‘but that’s all work for you’ but that’s what I enjoy, I like it! A few years ago I was given a cake decorating book for my birthday. It’s by Zoe Clark and it’s called Vintage Cakes, there are some stunning cakes in there. As soon as I saw the sewing machine cake I decided I would make it for my 50th birthday…and here we are!! It takes an awful lot of cake, though due to a printing error, not as much as the instructions say! The base called for an 18″ x 16″ cake, it took several days to realise it probably should read 8″ X 16″, I had already decided I was just going to use two 8″ cakes stuck together. The actual machine is made from an 11″ chocolate cake, I went through an awful lot of eggs making those,…

The Spoolettes in Dewsbury

Thanks Ladies for a fab day!  It was a bit like organising a party and biting your nails until the first guests start to arrive! And arrive you did – we had a ball – and so did the fabric shop-keepers in Dewsbury.  I bet they closed early as I’m sure today’s takings must’ve been up on a normal Wednesday! We met in the coffee shop at around 10:30 (Fiona, Dee and Margaret joined us a little later).  Most of us were strangers to each other in ‘real life’, but not for long.  We were all chatting like long lost pals!  It was fab to finally meet up with everyone, especially Rachel and Amanda as I felt like i knew them anyway, we’d followed each others blogs for so long! Our first port of call was Lucky Fashions….. The lovely lady there had even got some water and cans of pop in case we needed refreshments! Then we headed down to the market and onto Fabworks.  I kept doing a head count to make sure we’d …

The Yorkshire Spoolettes Meet Up Tomorrow!

Gosh, it’s only 1 sleep until our meet up in Dewsbury.  I can’t believe how fast the last month has gone when I first posted about it!  It came about originally as I’d been planning to meet up with Amanda from Sew Deputy and we decided to open it up to anyone who fancied a little fabric shopping and a natter in Dewsbury! And now there’s going to be 15 of us meeting up! Yay! Can’t wait to meet you all.  Here’s the roll call: Me Rachel from Is It Fitting? Fiona from Seams Straight Forward  Dee – Fiona’s friend Jeanie from Love That Sewing Hannah from Handmade by Hannah Margaret from The Crafty Creek Carol Amanda & her daughter Annice, from Sew Deputy Katrina from Rolling Eyeballs Neela from Sew Fusion Corrine from Appleby Makes Helen – my golfing and sewing buddy – no blog (YET!) Katharine – a keen sewer & final year Uni student who’s heard about our meet up and would like to feature it in her final year dissertation! Just a couple of …

Yay! The Spoolettes Are Coming To Yorkshire

I’m not sure how this is going to go, if it’s gonna be a breeze or lots of sleepless nights – I’m organising a meet-up in Dewsbury on Wednesday 8th April.  All the other meet-ups look amazing fun but miles away from me so I thought “why not have one nearby so I can go”!? I’ve been in touch with Clare over at Sewdixie Lou so all us Northern Sewers can join the Spoolettes!  If you’ve not heard of the Spoolettes then click on the link.  They have lots of fun and we can too! So where & when are we meeting…… Why Dewsbury? What’s it got to offer….. Dewsbury is market town which also has 2 amazing fabric shops.  Market Days are Wednesdays and Saturdays hence the meet up on a Wednesday.  For those who have a proper job and don’t work shifts like me, if this works out then I’ll organise a Saturday meet-up later in the summer. Its super easy to get to – it’s only 10 minutes off Jun 28 of …
