Giveaway!! I won and you could too!!

A couple of weeks ago I entered a giveaway to win £50 of fabric over at an online shop I’ve recently discovered – WeaverDee.com

It was the first of 6 weekly giveaways, and there’s still 4 left.  If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning then I’d head over there sharpish!

Imagine my excitement when I received an email to say I’d won!!

Picture the scene – it’s 4am, I’m 10 hours into my first night shift with 2 hours still left.  I’d been awake for 17 hours.  I was flagging a bit.  It was wild and windy outside and I was sat in the ambulance outside A&E wondering where control  would be sending us next.  I checked my emails whilst waiting…..

It’d only been sat in my inbox for 2 days!! An email telling me I’d won £50 to spend on fabric at WeaverDee!

I bet you can picture a very different scene now, inside the ambulance anyway!!

Needless to say the remaining 2 hours of my shift flew by and I couldn’t wait to get home so I could feast my eyes on their fabric selection!

It was really difficult to choose what to buy.  I’m so easily drawn to pretty floral fabric and geometric patterns.  This results in me having quite a colourful wardrobe, which is great in summer when I’m just matching a skirt/pants and a top, but come the cooler months when I need to layer 2 or 3 garments I can easily look like a 4 year old who has dressed themselves!

So instead I have a plan.

Here’s my fabric choices:

#WeaverDee 302

Might look a bit drab to some.  No pinks or cute ditsy florals. But fabric that I’ll make wardrobe staples that will get lots of wear.

So, from the top:

The first 2 fabrics are going to be made into snuggly faux fur scarves with a satin back.  I saw them on WeaverDees blog, where handmadeJane had made one and it looked like a quick an easy pressie for christmas. Jane has a tutorial on her blog how to make one. (yes Mum, one is for you!)

The next is a soft navy suiting fabric – I’ve ordered a metre to make a pair of trousers.  Think they’ll be the SBCC Manhattan Pants.  I’ve made them before in a moleskin and now I’ve lost a couple of inches they fit really well.

I’ve ordered 2 metres of cotton lawn to make an Archer.  I’ve had the pattern traced off for over a year and not gotten round to it!

Black georgette – I’m thinking another shirt/blouse – I don’t have a particular pattern in mind but i’m swaying towards a pussy bow blouse.

Lastly this stretch herringbone fabric (below).  I’m going to make a pair of pants for golf.  Depending how much stretch there is I might even use my Ginger Jeans pattern.

So, if you’ve read all this you’ve not yet clicked on the link to enter!  Go on….what you waiting for!!

Good luck!!

PS sorry, I didn’t realise at first, but the giveaway is only open to those in the uk.

I sew and play golf. I blog about my sewing as I don't think you'd want to read about my golf. It's bad enough watching it on telly! Contact me via email - Thimbers.blog@gmail.com

  1. Thanks for the link Ali – have just entered several times! Love the sound of those fur/satin scarves; I’ll pop over and have a look in a minute. Congrats on the win! You could always sneak a bright geo-print underneath all that grey……

It’s always great to hear someone you know (sort of) has won. Well done, lovely choices K xXx

    • I’m thinking I’ll be able to keep one if I can make 4, fingers crossed. Good luck…have you seen all their fab cottons, there’s some great patterns for shirt making 😀

Well done you. I’m picturing that ambulance rocking outside A&E as you jump up and down.

    • Haha… I nearly banged my head on the inside of the cab, my mate thinks I’m bonkers! I hope you’ve entered – this could kick start your spent mojo! 😀

Well at least you were in the right place if you’d knocked yourself out. I’m not entering as it feels rather greedy when I’m ignoring the fabric I already have. But I did buy some Christmas fabric in the week – so I’ll be unearthing my sewing machine very soon!

  4. Well done and thank you for sharing. I have entered as well, although you know chances of winning in my case are probably none! I really like that fur you’ve chosen, I’ve been looking for a similar colour as I also wanted to make a fur scarf, for myself though, but now that you mentioned it, it does make a great handmade present.

    • I was gob smacked that I won. I only entered once, I didn’t do the Twitter or Facebook thingy they said for extra goes, so you never know! And there’s still 3 more after this week. Good luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

    • Thanks Beth! Hope you’ve entered and win! It’ll be an excuse for some selfish sewing…I imagine you’ll be busy with your new venture. Hope it’s going well 😀

    • It’s fab, I couldn’t believe it when I received the email, I feel so lucky! It’ll be like getting free clothes once I use my fabric! 🙂

  5. Carolyn says

Congrats Ali, that’s awesome! I rarely enter giveaways because I feel like the chance of winning is so low, but it’s great to hear that people actually win these things! Good luck with that Archer! 🙂

    • I didn’t hold much hope as i only entered once, I did;t bother with the other things which boosted your chance of winning. It’s definitely made me want to enter a few more!
PS the archer is coming on nicely. still on with my muslin, but making it properly so i can practice all the different bits! 🙂

    • Thanks Linda! Don’t know about flying, production is a bit slow, don’t know where the time goes. Not working as much in December so hopefully that will be a more productive month 🙂
