Hello!

Hope you’ve all had a lovely week!  I’ve been crazy busy doing all sorts and not even had time to catch up on my blog reader at all.  I don’t think I’ve even caught up from last weekends Sunday Sevens.  Hopefully this week will be a little more sedate.

At the start of the week I met one of my lovely work buddies who left a couple of years ago.  I won’t say retired as she doesn’t seem old enough.  I met her in between the first and second coat of paint I was giving my mums downstairs loo!   And just for a change we went to Jeremy’s bar.  Chicken salad – and no pudding!!  I was thinking about my waistline as Portugal is only around the corner.

Just arriving at my mums for the second coat.  Luckily I’d put plenty of dust sheets down – I managed to catch the open tin of paint in mid flight but there was still enough on the floor to use for the second coat!  Oops!

Wednesday H and I crossed the pennines and headed to the Trafford Centre.  It’s not somewhere I’d normally go but the hubby won a £50 gift voucher to spend in John Lewis.  After spending ages in the haberdashery and finally deciding I didn’t need any more fabric I headed to the shoe department and bought these beauties!  I always struggle with what to wear on my feet when I’m abroad and as these have laces they’ll expand with my chubby little feet!

I continued getting the ‘miles’ in this week.  25km walking, 7km golfing and 20km on my bike.  Here’s a view as I was walking one evening – on the horizon you can just make out the Pennines.

Friday turned out to be a really wet day.  It did’t start out wet, but 1/2 hour into our golf match the heavens opened.  Despite getting drenched and beaten by our opponents Mags and I were still smiling.  We were playing in the first round of an inter club knock out competiton.

Friday night we went out with some of the parents from H’s footie team.  A very late night with maybe one too many glasses of wine.  And I learnt something new.  Though it might be a load of rubbish.  Next time your smiling for the camera for a selfie (or whatever!) put your tongue on the roof of your mouth.  It’s supposed to lift your chins!  It kept us entertained during the evening as we tried it.

The next day I must have had a hangover felt out of sorts as I gave my cooker a good clean!

After browsing my magimix cook book I decided to make their version of a fish pie.  Layers of thinly sliced potatoes with chopped haddock, parsley, spinach and a few other bits n pieces whizzed up.  Very nice!  We finished the leftovers for tea tonight.

Sunshine today for H’s footie match.  They managed a 4-2 win and moved one point clear from the bottom of the league.

This week i’ve managed a few bits of sewing.  Mainly mending and shortening but I did make another polo top for golf.  I did lots of basting and it payed off – the placket was perfect first time, despite using a slippery jersey.

Natalie from Threads and Bobbins thought up the Sunday Sevens over 18 months ago as a way of posting snippets of your week that maybe wouldn’t warrant a blog post all on their own.  You don’t have to sign your life away to join in – just jump in and out as you please – or go for the long haul like me.  It’s fun for us all to find out what goes on outside the sewing room, and also for ourselves to look back on as it’s so easy to forget all what goes on as life speeds on by.

I sew and play golf. I blog about my sewing as I don't think you'd want to read about my golf. It's bad enough watching it on telly! Contact me via email - Thimbers.blog@gmail.com

  1. Talk about coincidence! Your post popped up just as I’d opened my Reader! What a glorious week you’ve had – am eager to see more of that top you made for golfing. (When you’re out on the course do you always carry gear for wet weather?) Didn’t you get anything besides shoes at J.L.? (hint-hint!) Goodness, H is getting better looking every time we see him. Must be all that great food you’re cooking on your wonderfully bright & shiny cooker. Till next time ~ enjoy! ⛳️ 🌞

    • Yea, we mostly carry our waterproofs in our bags, but I just made do with a light weight jacket and brolly. It’s keeping the hands dry that’s important, but wearing rubber gloves helps keep a reasonable grip on the golf club. I did buy a top and a skirt too. And spent quite a bit more than what the voucher was worth. Oops! 🙂

  2. I am so impressed with you “miles” total! You are totally my inspiration anyway – I’ve even managed to jog into week 6 of my couch to 5k now!

    • Brilliant! It really does get easier, doesn’t it!? I’ve not been able to run at all this week as I’ve had some aches but hoping to add it back in slowly next week. I felt better when I started and realised that my lungs wouldn’t actually explode! 🙂

      • I think I’m coming to that point now, so here’s to hoping the weather might ease up (it has been raining for ages here) so I can get back out there.

    • Haha, I didn’t need any that day, not ever!! And they didn’t have just what I wanted and they did have a big shoe department. And I love shoes nearly as much as fabric! 🙂

  3. Another busy week. Hasn’t the weather been weird. Sun snow rain and hail. Hard on the sports. We are going away next weekend and I am looking forward to running in the sun. Fingers crossed. Your polo top is lovely by the way K xXx

    • Thankyou! I’m away next week too but don’t think I’ll be taking my trainers as we’re golfing every day so will need to save the rest of my energy for walking to the bars and restaurants! Enjoy the sunshine! 🙂

  4. Now that’s the kind of chicken salad I like – it looks lush! Walking, cycling and golf; no wonder you’re week was so busy. Sounds like fun though, and those shoes are great. Nice bit of blue sky peeping out too, which must have been nice in a changeable week, weather-wise. Much admiration for a perfect placket, too!

    • Thankyou! The salad was gorgeous and the chicken was warm which was a nice surprise! (easily pleased!). My week off work has gone too fast though and back to reality this week, but still got a few action packed days in and amongst my shifts! 🙂

    • Thanks Linda, I’ve been putting off making this top for ages as I was scared of the placket. I feel like I’ve jumped quite a large hurdle now and can wait to do it again 😀

You have had another busy week, I don’t know where you find your energy from, but if you have some spare, please bottle it up and send it my way 🙂

The chicken salad looks delicious, I could happily dig into a plate of that right now.

I did have to smile briefly about the paint – been there, done that! Glad you had enough left to finish the job.

Love your new shoes and a good idea to ensure there is some expansion room, especially as it will probably be hot on holiday and your feet may swell a bit.

I’ll try your advice about using your tongue on the roof of your mouth – although I’d need a fork lift truck to lift all my chins 🙂

Hope you have a great week next week.

    Debbie x

    • The cooker won’t be like that for long! And I’ll be selling it when we do up the house. I’m desperate for an electro one that’s easy to clean tho I prefer to cook wth gas I’m going for the easy life! 😃

  6. My goodness, that chicken salad looks amazing! I think you were very good for not buying any fabric, but your shoe comment made me laugh as my mum always has to buy shoes that accommodate her chubby little feet too! 🙂 Your placket looks perfect! You’ll need to show us the top now!

  7. Now that’s my kind of husband who wins a John Lewis and sends you off to spend it on you. Fab shoes. Well done on the miles. I’ve only just got my energy back to return to exercise, but now have a prolapsed disc, and thinking the physio may ban me from my bike 😦

  8. I always admire how much you get out and about during a week, and this one is no exception. It sounds like you’re doing a great mix of exercise too. Amazing shoes! I’m looking forward to seeing your completed golf top.

  9. Another great week! Productive (all those miles!) and fun and shopping. Oh, that fish pie looks delicious, judging from the amount gone, it was a hit! And now I’m inspired to go give my stovetop a little scrub, too. 🙂
