Fankenpattern to the Races – Newlook 6648 and 6730

For the last few years we’ve been invited to Ripon races and I’ve always made a new dress for the occasion. This year I almost deviated from wearing handmade as I finally was able to fit into a favourite RTW dress that has been too small for ages…..or I’ve been too big! Unfortunately I gained about 4 pounds after this picture was taken and it wasn’t as comfortable so I had to have a plan b. I still had some of the blue ITY fabric (from this years SewUpNorth) left after making Simpicity 1613  So then I had a crazy idea to make some pull on wide legged pants (Newlook 6730) and create a jumpsuit if I shortened the dress and stitched them together. I cut out the pants in a small which is a 25 1/2 – 26 1/2 inch waist and a 34 1/2 – 36 1/2 inch hip. I’ve not been that small since I started school but due to the stretchiness of the ITY knit and the close fit I was wanting …

#SEWUPNORTH 2017

What a day!!  Even bigger, and dare I say it better than last year!  Sally and Becca really pulled out all the stops and were super organised! It included a pattern and fabric swap,  a huge gathering at Costa, lots of shopping and chances to mingle, and a raffle of amazing prizes at the end of the day which raised over £750 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance!   Well done ladies!! Here’s a couple of jersey fabrics I took to the swap…… And a few patterns……. Meeting up with our 2 hostesses with the mostess!  Becca was not impressed with my tan!  And the lovely Wendy who you might remember from my last Sunday Sevens post. Wendy made the actual garments on some of the knitting patterns for sale in John Lewis! How cool is that!?  We made John Lewis our first stop as there was a sale on, Wendy bought some gorgeous silk, I just did lots of stroking.  A random fella took a pic for us in the new arcade outside John Lewis. …

Sew Up North

You nearly got Sunday Sevens on time.   Only nearly! But I’m too excited still about my day yesterday attending Sew Up North, so I just have to tell you about that first. Sew Up North?   Don’t tell me you don’t know about it.  It has even made it to the Foldline’s Sew Reporter news roundup this week!!   Becca from REDWSEWS and Sally from Sew sweet by Sally arranged a northern meet up in Leeds…..and I went!   Yay for Leeds being on my doorstep! And yay for Becca and Sally!! So yesterday was an early start.  Not because I had a long journey, but because I needed to finish off my Renfrew and colour my roots before I could set off to meet all the sewing lovelies in Leeds at 10 o’clock.  Sewing the Renfrew was more of a necessity than the roots although I didn’t want my silver roots to match my top! At 9:15 I was on the bus with my little liberty bag for the pattern swap.  I took …
