Handmade Harrogate

Back in June last year I organised a meet up in Harrogate. It came about after I called in to Fine Fabrics of Harrogate and was chatting to Sandra about the possibility of and she kindly offered her place as place for us to meet, and there was the mention of cake. So it was a no brainer. Fabric + Cake + Lovely sewing pals = Fab day out And it was! We met about 10am, I think there was 18 of us. or there abouts. Sandra had organised coffee and chocolate brownies, and she also had a goodie bag for each of us! We said our good byes to Sandra and headed into town. Sandra’s shop is just on the edge of town, on Skipton Road. It’s walking distance to the train station. There are parking restrictions outside but if your calling in Sandra can lend you a permit so don’t worry about not being able to park close by. Our next stop was Bobbins and Bolts. I bought my Lander Pants pattern there …

#sewdowndewsbury 6th March

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the late update on our SewDownDewsbury meetup next Wednesday. We’ll be meeting at our usual spot – Wetherspoons – the area on the right as you go in.  I’ll be there from 9:30.  We usually hang around until about 10:30, before hitting the shops. If you haven’t been to Dewsbury or not sure where Wetherspoons is, there’s a map and photos of landmarks on THIS blog post from our 2017 meet up. There’s lots of cheap parking in Dewsbury (see the map on the link above).  Please don’t park at Fabworks for the day.  One it’s not a big car park, and two your car might get locked in as has nearly happened before!  No names mentioned! If you’re going to be arriving a bit late and need to know where we are, drop me an email ( thimberlina.blog@gmail.com ) or message me via instagram and I’ll give you my mobile number so you can contact me when you arrive. There will be a pattern and fabric swap if you would …

#SEWUPNORTH 2017

What a day!!  Even bigger, and dare I say it better than last year!  Sally and Becca really pulled out all the stops and were super organised! It included a pattern and fabric swap,  a huge gathering at Costa, lots of shopping and chances to mingle, and a raffle of amazing prizes at the end of the day which raised over £750 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance!   Well done ladies!! Here’s a couple of jersey fabrics I took to the swap…… And a few patterns……. Meeting up with our 2 hostesses with the mostess!  Becca was not impressed with my tan!  And the lovely Wendy who you might remember from my last Sunday Sevens post. Wendy made the actual garments on some of the knitting patterns for sale in John Lewis! How cool is that!?  We made John Lewis our first stop as there was a sale on, Wendy bought some gorgeous silk, I just did lots of stroking.  A random fella took a pic for us in the new arcade outside John Lewis. …

#SundaySevens 97 – Sunshine Edition

It’s a double bill and there’s been lots going on, including my long awaited ladies trip to Portugal.  If you’ve never thought of playing golf, it’s worth learning to play just to come on our trip! 2 weeks ago H was on school holidays.  Here he is with cyber mom, she had to stand on a chair to give him a kiss and for a minute I thought she was going to fall off!  And look she’s wearing my favourite Coco that is now hers. And then we all went to play golf. (us, not cyber mum!)  H played with the juniors in their comp and came 2nd and played 3 under his handicap – which is a first.  He was really pleased. And then it was soon time for some last minute pampering before my holiday…nothing like a glamorous foils shot to keep it real! If you’ve been following the Tour De Yorkshire this weekend and know where abouts I live you might have realised that it’s only been a couple of miles away, and there’s …

February Hawl

Time to share my pattern and fabric additions from February! This is a new thing for me.  I often add the odd photo to my Sunday Sevens but then I forget where I bought or acquired fabric and patterns so hopefully by writing a monthly post of my acquisitions it’ll help me and might be of interest to you too!   Simplicity 1361 For starters the description absolutely cracks me up! Make a riding shirt that’s uniquely yours. Misses’ fitted equestrian performance shirt has front separating zipper and uses heavy weight interfacing in collar and cuff for a stiff shape. It’s years since I last sat on a horse, but I was drawn to this pattern as I thought I could make a lightweight jacket for golf or to wear with jeans.  Or shorten the sleeves and make a zip up T shirt for golf. Simplicity 8229 I’ve been watching the underwear making antics from the sidelines for some time.  Since stopping smoking I’ve always felt I was a few pounds heavier than I would like to …

Giveaway Time! How Far Would You Go?!

Remember I said there’s going to be a prize for someone who couldn’t make the #sewdowndewsbury meet up? Well there’s going to be 2! The ladies who attended were such a generous bunch, here’s what you could win in the giveaway……                               All you have to do is guess the total number of miles that everyone travelled to get to Dewsbury. There’ll be a UK winner and an international winner.  I’m going to share the goodies between 2 winners.  The whole lot of prizes weigh in at 7 pounds, so when I’m putting the 2 prizes together the UK one will have the heavier gifts. Also, if someone wins the international one and they live in Australie I won’t give them Chris’s wooly hat! Please leave your guestimate in the comments below, and maybe say where you’re from and how far you’d go to have a fab day with sewing crazy ladies! The giveaway will close on Friday 17th March at …

#SEWDOWNDEWSBURY – an update and teasing you with more photos!

Only 3 sleeps for you guys!  I’m not sure how to count mine as I’m working the night shift tonight and tomorrow so it’ll be 2 ish I think!   It’s all getting just too exciting! So I thought I’d write a short post as I keep thinking of things to tell you! I’ve been down Dewsbury today to make sure Weatherspoons have saved us a corner.  They have – we’ll all be directly on your right as soon as you walk in.   Errm, what else.   Have you made a badge?   Like the goodie bag swap badge making isn’t compulsory.  I only just traced mine off last night (using just my iPhone and a frixion pen)  and am hoping to do a quick running stitch over the fancy writing and then stitch it to something a bit more substantial.  Not sure when this is going to happen, I’ve not even hemmed my Moneta yet!  And I’ve not got a goodie bag  to put my goodies in!  Oh my, I really need to …

#SundaySevens 90 – Double Bill

Hi Folks! Apologies for the double bill!  I’m thinking back to when some used to say I don’t know how you fit it all in! And now I’m wondering the same as it really is a struggle at the minute. But I won’t dwell on it, I’ll just say (like for most of us do) that there’s just not enough hours in the day and it’s generally the blogging that suffers the most for me. I am hoping to catch up on some reading this week, so if you get comments popping up on not so new posts you know why. It seems like ages ago now, but I had a lovely surprise when I turned the page to find myself in the Sew Today magazine!  Back in October (I think?!) I attended the Big Vintage Sew-Along Tea Party at the Harrogate knitting and stitching show.  It was great fun!  The Vogue 9082 i made for the occasion had so much wear at the races, weddings and dinners last year it was worth every pain …

#sewdowndewsbury – only 9 sleeps

Last year when the Spoolettes got together down Dewsbury for a day of sewcialising I ran a little competition/giveaway and prizes were awarded to 2 ladies who guessed the closest to the total mileage of how far everyone had travelled. Tialys (international winner!) guessed 655 and Sam (UK winner) guessed 666.  The total mileage was 671. This year there […]

#SundaySevens 87 Feat. Fabricate at Roberttown

All this came from just ONE cauliflower!! So I got all super organised and bagged up lots of spare veg for the freezer for those days when I was sewing working and needed a quick meal for the family. What’s in the bag this week!  I took some fabric and card to work to attempt some sticking, glueing and stitching in my break.  I did manage to make a start on my Hexie Caddie for #sewdowndewsbury. Before the weekend I would have struggled to muster up an interesting post.  But thanks to a Fabricate opening only about 3 miles from home things began to look up! I gathered together a few friends – Karen from the Sewing Miserablist, and Sue and 2 more golfing buddies.   It was all a bit surreal, my online friend is now a proper friend and is making friends with my other proper friends!  How good is that! Karen showing of her new Burda Jeans! And me totally Tillied out in my Coco and Cleo!  Sorry I couldn’t help posing in and amongst …
