Goodie Bag Guidance!

For the next Yorkshire Spoolette’s Meet Up on the 25th February there’s going to be a goodie bag swap.  It’s not compulsory to join in but it is compulsory for it to be fun! A few of you have been wondering what sort of thing you could put in so I thought I’d give you a few ideas. I’ve not even got any photos together yet, I’m going to find them as I write.  And guess where I’m going to look first? SEWCHET’s Stitching Santa posts! She is the Queen of all craftiness and has the most amazing ideas.  I think they’ve started to rub off onto her followers because everyone who took part in her Stitching  Santa have made some great gifts.  So that’s where I’m going to start!! Before you start looking, don’t get worried.  They’re just ideas and you don’t have to make a huge bag of goodies! A key ring – made by Lyn at Tialys   A Zipper pouch – we can never have enough zipper pouches! Also made by …

Save The Date For The Next Dewsbury Meet-up

Yay!   It finally arrived at 11:19 last night! The email letting me know for definite the big changes that would affect my shift pattern and when they will take affect from. That can only mean one thing… A date for the next Spoolette’s meet up can now be set!  I didn’t want to do it before knowing as I’d be gutted if I arranged it and then couldn’t even go myself! Saturday 25th February 2017 We’ll be meeting at the same cafe as last year but in the afternoon instead of going to Weatherspoons I’m thinking we might go to the pub at the train station instead.  I’m going got make a trip to Dewsbury in the next week or so to let Fabworks and Lucky Fashions know to expect a stampede of fabric starved ladies, and to check out meeting places. If you’ve not been before it’s a time to spend a fews hours laughing, admiring and stroking (clothes of fellow Spoolettes) and generally having a fab day with people who you’ll feel you’ve known for …

#SparkSomethingGood – Update

Earlier this week some of the Yorkshire Spoolettes headed into Leeds and volunteered their time to help make syringe driver bags for our local hospitals and hospices.   It was part of a big campaign which Marks & Spencers are running for 24 months and heading to different parts of the country, working with lots of different charities having fun and sparking something good within the local communities.   If you want to see if there is anything is happening in your area click HERE to be taken to a website called Neighbourly where you can see what charities need help in your area. Or if you have a project that needs help, head over and you may be in luck!  It’s not just about Marks and Spencers, lots of organisations use Neighbourly. And here’s the launch video  for Spark Something Good from 8 months ago:   I really don’t know how I didn’t know about it already!  But I’m so glad that Alex emailed me and I was able to help out along with some other …

Help Needed – #sparksomethinggood

Yesterday I received an email from Alex who blogs at Sewrendipity asking for help from the Yorkshire Spoolettes to join her and others in making special tote bags for the local oncology units and hospices.  Of course you don’t have to have been to any of the Spoolette meet ups to volunteer – if you sew and are from Yorkshire or there abouts yours automatically a Yorkshire Spoolette!  And if you’re in the UK but not local read on as there are going to be similar things going on around the country. Here’s an example of what will be sewn on the day – all cutting out will be done in advance (yay) so there’s only sewing to do! And here’s the syringe driver… Here’s the email from Alex which has all the information you’ll need to volunteer, including links.  When you register and volunteer it can take 24 hours before you receive a confirmation email that you’ve been accepted as a volunteer. Hello Ali and Amanda Hope you’re well! I have a mission for the …

Dewsbury Makes Linky Party!

On the 6th February the Yorkshire Spoolette’s gathered in Dewsbury for their 2nd meet up.  We had a great day and came away with bags full to brimming with scrumptious fabric. Once the shops closed we hit Weatherspoon and it was then that I set a challenge for everyone to make something in the next month with something bought on the day.   So here we are!  A linky party of all the gorgeous garments made, and Amanda’s dishcloth! If you didn’t join us but have made something with fabric bought from Dewsbury please add your link.   Links can be from blog posts, instagram or just photos.   It’s easy to do, so link away!! The link will be open until 7th April – another month to get sewing and share with us your fab makes! If anyone knows why you can’t view the pictures without clicking the link please let me know as it’s driving me crazy trying to fix it!!

Competition Results & #SundaySevens 50

Sunday Sevens is late as we were at a wedding yesterday, so I thought instead of writing 2 posts, which seemed I bit daft, I’d announce the winner of the competition with this week’s Sunday Sevens. If there’s anyone who’s not heard of Sunday Sevens – it’s 7 ish photos of your week showing a bit more about what goes when you’re not sewing. Generally for me I’m either eating or working!  Invented by the lovely Natalie from Threads & Bobbins if you want to read more. Without further ado…………. The total mileage travelled by all the ladies from their Home to Fabworks Dewsbury was 671 miles!   The evening of the meet up I totted up the mileage and sent my mum a text of how far all the ladies had travelled.  I was quite amazed at the final total, and so was mum!  And even more amazed that some of you got quite close the the figure. The winner of the £25 voucher plus free P&P donated by Fabworks is Sam who guessed 666 miles.  Sam …

The Yorkshire Spoolette’s 2nd Meet-Up

Well, I needn’t have worried! All those restless nights were worth it! I even dreamt one night that I couldn’t even blog about today because I forgot to go! It wasn’t just me who was a bit nervous.  I mean, we hear it all the time on the news.  The dangers of meeting strangers online that might not be who you think they are!!  Gosh, if our kids had known what we’d  been up to today!! So at 10:30am I met with a lovely bunch of ladies, who did not feel like strangers at all, and we didn’t stop talking or shopping until 4pm tonight! We gathered together at Kenny’s Bistro – a newly opened cafe that’s done out lovely and very reasonable – 85p for a toasted currant tea cake!!  More money to be spent on fabric!! The staff were lovely and didn’t mind us rearranging the table and chairs so we could all gather round. We had a little fabric and pattern swap whilst I worked out some of the milages how far those on …

The Yorkshire Spoolettes – Who’s Going & Something For Those Who Can’t

It’s only 9 sleeps until the Yorkshire Spoolettes meet up in Dewsbury.  Thankyou to all of you who said you can make it. There’s a great bunch of ladies going but unfortunately due to distance there’s a whole lot of you who can’t. That got me thinking, and I contacted Fabworks to see if they would like to sponsor a competition on my blog for those who can’t go, and they said YES!!! So, here’s out it will work. I’m going to let you know who’s going to the meet up.  You need to work out (or guess!!) the total  mileage travelled to Dewsbury by all who attended on the day.  The mileage will be worked out from each persons home to Fabworks.   I’ll list who is going.  Then you can look them up and come to some sort of figure of how far you think everyone has travelled.  On the day of the meet up I will ask each one how far they’ve travelled and work out the total mileage.   To give you a …

Save The Date – Yorkshire Spoolettes Meet-Up!

Back by popular demand I’m arranging another meet-up in Dewsbury on Saturday 6th February 2016. The day will be the same or similar to our last meet up – link in the top menu (or HERE) with what we got up to last time. Everyone’s welcome! More details will follow, but as it’s only a few weeks away I thought you might like something to look forward to and have time to juggle child care etc so you can make it. Hope you can make it!
