Mini Meet Up in Happy Valley

Since accidentally discovering The Fabbadashery in Halifax  (photos and post HERE) I’ve thought it would be a lovely place to have a mini meet up for the Yorkshire Spoolettes. So, the date is Wednesday 4th May – the day before the first episode of this year’s GBSB!!! Are you as excited as me!!! I keep wondering if I’ll ‘know’ any of the contestants.  I’ve got a bit of a feeling that there might be a certain lady who doesn’t live too far from me who might be in it, but it’s only a hunch and I’ve no evidence, and I’m not saying who! Anyway, back to the meet up! Chrissy has kindly offered tea, coffee and bikkies (which auto correct keep trying to change to bikinis!!) and afterwards I’ll arrange for us to have lunch somewhere – venue dependant on numbers., but there’s plenty to choose from. The sewing/teaching room which opens up from the shop won’t be in use so there is somewhere for us to sit,  natter,  bring a bit of hand sewing …

Dewsbury Makes Linky Party!

On the 6th February the Yorkshire Spoolette’s gathered in Dewsbury for their 2nd meet up.  We had a great day and came away with bags full to brimming with scrumptious fabric. Once the shops closed we hit Weatherspoon and it was then that I set a challenge for everyone to make something in the next month with something bought on the day.   So here we are!  A linky party of all the gorgeous garments made, and Amanda’s dishcloth! If you didn’t join us but have made something with fabric bought from Dewsbury please add your link.   Links can be from blog posts, instagram or just photos.   It’s easy to do, so link away!! The link will be open until 7th April – another month to get sewing and share with us your fab makes! If anyone knows why you can’t view the pictures without clicking the link please let me know as it’s driving me crazy trying to fix it!!

Competition Results & #SundaySevens 50

Sunday Sevens is late as we were at a wedding yesterday, so I thought instead of writing 2 posts, which seemed I bit daft, I’d announce the winner of the competition with this week’s Sunday Sevens. If there’s anyone who’s not heard of Sunday Sevens – it’s 7 ish photos of your week showing a bit more about what goes when you’re not sewing. Generally for me I’m either eating or working!  Invented by the lovely Natalie from Threads & Bobbins if you want to read more. Without further ado…………. The total mileage travelled by all the ladies from their Home to Fabworks Dewsbury was 671 miles!   The evening of the meet up I totted up the mileage and sent my mum a text of how far all the ladies had travelled.  I was quite amazed at the final total, and so was mum!  And even more amazed that some of you got quite close the the figure. The winner of the £25 voucher plus free P&P donated by Fabworks is Sam who guessed 666 miles.  Sam …

The Yorkshire Spoolette’s 2nd Meet-Up

Well, I needn’t have worried! All those restless nights were worth it! I even dreamt one night that I couldn’t even blog about today because I forgot to go! It wasn’t just me who was a bit nervous.  I mean, we hear it all the time on the news.  The dangers of meeting strangers online that might not be who you think they are!!  Gosh, if our kids had known what we’d  been up to today!! So at 10:30am I met with a lovely bunch of ladies, who did not feel like strangers at all, and we didn’t stop talking or shopping until 4pm tonight! We gathered together at Kenny’s Bistro – a newly opened cafe that’s done out lovely and very reasonable – 85p for a toasted currant tea cake!!  More money to be spent on fabric!! The staff were lovely and didn’t mind us rearranging the table and chairs so we could all gather round. We had a little fabric and pattern swap whilst I worked out some of the milages how far those on …

The Yorkshire Spoolettes – Who’s Going & Something For Those Who Can’t

It’s only 9 sleeps until the Yorkshire Spoolettes meet up in Dewsbury.  Thankyou to all of you who said you can make it. There’s a great bunch of ladies going but unfortunately due to distance there’s a whole lot of you who can’t. That got me thinking, and I contacted Fabworks to see if they would like to sponsor a competition on my blog for those who can’t go, and they said YES!!! So, here’s out it will work. I’m going to let you know who’s going to the meet up.  You need to work out (or guess!!) the total  mileage travelled to Dewsbury by all who attended on the day.  The mileage will be worked out from each persons home to Fabworks.   I’ll list who is going.  Then you can look them up and come to some sort of figure of how far you think everyone has travelled.  On the day of the meet up I will ask each one how far they’ve travelled and work out the total mileage.   To give you a …

Calling All Yorkshire Spoolettes!

I’m feeling a bit nervous writing this post.  Arranging a meet-up is a lot like arranging your own birthday party and hoping someone other than your mother and your best mate turn up!  Then there’s the venue and the food to worry about.  And what shall I wear???     But when I really think about it, there’s nothing to fear.  I’m just feeling a bit nervous. I’m praying it doesn’t snow and that no one’s child-care arrangements fall through.  If they do, bring the kiddos – I’ll do my Nanny McFee bit whilst you shop!  For those who can’t make it, Fabworks are now online so there’s still lots of bargains to be had!! Lots of Scuba I’ve noticed!  The staff there are all proper seamstresses too, so they’re  really helpful if you contact them and need help with your fabric choices.    So here’s our itinary. It’s the other way round to last time because Fabworks close early at 2pm on a Saturday and it would be a bit daft if you didn’t get …

Save The Date – Yorkshire Spoolettes Meet-Up!

Back by popular demand I’m arranging another meet-up in Dewsbury on Saturday 6th February 2016. The day will be the same or similar to our last meet up – link in the top menu (or HERE) with what we got up to last time. Everyone’s welcome! More details will follow, but as it’s only a few weeks away I thought you might like something to look forward to and have time to juggle child care etc so you can make it. Hope you can make it!

Birthday Cake Singer Sewing Machine!

Originally posted on thecraftycreek:
I’ve got a big birthday this weekend so I’ve got 12 friends for dinner tomorrow night and I’ve just made myself a birthday cake, a few people have said ‘but that’s all work for you’ but that’s what I enjoy, I like it! A few years ago I was given a cake decorating book for my birthday. It’s by Zoe Clark and it’s called Vintage Cakes, there are some stunning cakes in there. As soon as I saw the sewing machine cake I decided I would make it for my 50th birthday…and here we are!! It takes an awful lot of cake, though due to a printing error, not as much as the instructions say! The base called for an 18″ x 16″ cake, it took several days to realise it probably should read 8″ X 16″, I had already decided I was just going to use two 8″ cakes stuck together. The actual machine is made from an 11″ chocolate cake, I went through an awful lot of eggs making those,…

The Spoolettes in Dewsbury

Thanks Ladies for a fab day!  It was a bit like organising a party and biting your nails until the first guests start to arrive! And arrive you did – we had a ball – and so did the fabric shop-keepers in Dewsbury.  I bet they closed early as I’m sure today’s takings must’ve been up on a normal Wednesday! We met in the coffee shop at around 10:30 (Fiona, Dee and Margaret joined us a little later).  Most of us were strangers to each other in ‘real life’, but not for long.  We were all chatting like long lost pals!  It was fab to finally meet up with everyone, especially Rachel and Amanda as I felt like i knew them anyway, we’d followed each others blogs for so long! Our first port of call was Lucky Fashions….. The lovely lady there had even got some water and cans of pop in case we needed refreshments! Then we headed down to the market and onto Fabworks.  I kept doing a head count to make sure we’d …
