Sew Up North

You nearly got Sunday Sevens on time.   Only nearly! But I’m too excited still about my day yesterday attending Sew Up North, so I just have to tell you about that first. Sew Up North?   Don’t tell me you don’t know about it.  It has even made it to the Foldline’s Sew Reporter news roundup this week!!   Becca from REDWSEWS and Sally from Sew sweet by Sally arranged a northern meet up in Leeds…..and I went!   Yay for Leeds being on my doorstep! And yay for Becca and Sally!! So yesterday was an early start.  Not because I had a long journey, but because I needed to finish off my Renfrew and colour my roots before I could set off to meet all the sewing lovelies in Leeds at 10 o’clock.  Sewing the Renfrew was more of a necessity than the roots although I didn’t want my silver roots to match my top! At 9:15 I was on the bus with my little liberty bag for the pattern swap.  I took …

Cover Stitch Quest Part 1

For ages and ages I’ve wanted a coverstitch machine and lusted over many a blog post and You Tube video in my dreamy state.  Throughout this period of wanting (I’m well into my second year) I’ve read so many reviews and watched umpteen You Tube videos.    The ones of lucky owners opening the boxes of their new machines nearly has me wetting my pants with excitement! I’ve even downloaded and read several coverstitch machine manuals. And then this happened a couple of weeks ago (just to set the scene we were going to be going away for the weekend for my birthday, but MIL was still in hosptial). HUBBY:  Maybe we shouldn’t go away this weekend with my mum still being in hospital…? ME:  That’s fine lovey, at least we’ll be able to go the golf club dinner on Saturday night. HUBBY:  Yea, and with the money we’d have spent you can have that machine thing that you’ve been wanting for ages. ME: AAAAARRRRRHHHHHHHH!!!  ….Yes!!  ….Please!!! …..Thankyou!!!!  So you get the picture, I’m a bit excited to say the least.   …

Sewbrum 2016

Back in March Charlotte from English Girl At Home revealed the date for Sewbrum 2016.  I was so giddy when I checked my shift planner – it was my week end off I and could go!! For those of you who haven’t heard of Sewbrum, and that can’t be many, even my mum’s heard of Sewbrum, it’s a day out socialising, shopping and eating cake with lovely like minded people. I had been gutted to miss Sewbrum 2014 and 2015 as the dates just didn’t work for me, but this year it was 3rd time lucky! I’d never been to a meet up before, well only the little Yorkshire Spoolette ones I had organised earlier this year and last year.  And none of the other Yorkshire Spoolettes were going so I was going to be going on my own. And then Becca from Redwsew said she was going so we booked on the same trains.  I’d met Becca in real life earlier this year at the Fabbadashery so it wasn’t too scary as I wasn’t going to …

When Jenny Met Ali

I’ve 3 blog post on my to-do list and half an hour to spare.  So first up and straight to the top of the list and bypassing my belated Sunday Sevens is when Harry met Sally, oops I mean when Jenny met Ali!   It has a similar ring to it though don’t you think! The whole blogging and sewcial media scene has changing my lonely hobby into something really exciting, and I’ve friendships blossoming all over the world.  I’ve already met some of my new sewing buddies in real life but the chances of meeting those from outside of the UK are pretty slim. But then Jen – from Let The Sewing Begin -mentioned she was going to be holidaying in South Wales.  Not anywhere near Yorkshire, but we just HAD to meet up.  I checked out where Jenny was staying and tried to find somewhere in the middle which would be easy for us both to get to.  We eventually decided on Chester – it was about 2 1/2 hours each by train AND …

Oops! Accidentally Adding To The Stash

A couple of weeks ago the Tall Boy went on a cricket tour to Arundel in the south of England.  We didn’t have to go with him as the whole team went together on a coach.  But the hubby and I went to to watch, took our bikes and golf clubs and expected to make the most of the warmer southern weather that we’d heard about. Unfortunately the only good days weather wise were the day we arrived and the day we left.  So we played no golf, rode zero miles, and only saw 1 hour of cricket. We did however stumble across 3 different fabric shops in 3 different towns!   First up, and totally by chance – Sarah Louise Designs in Arundel   The hubby still doesn’t believe me that I didn’t plan the visit to this shop! How cute is this chicken tea cosy!? I just love this gold spotty cotton! I didn’t buy it but I’m still in 2 minds and might have to buy a couple of metres online as it’s a …

Spoolettes Next Meet Up Details

Hi Just a quickie, I’m playing catch in in advance of everything before I go on my holidays in the morning! Sorry, I don’t mean to rub it in, but that’s my excuse for this being short and sweet. Our next Spoolettes meet up is on Wednesday 4th May in Halifax. We’ll meet around 11am at Cafe Passion and drink coffee and say our ‘Hellos’ 12 noon we’ll head to The Fabbadashery to swoon over their fabric and all the other goodies dotted around.  There’s also a large table which they use for their classes. It will be free so we can sit and natter.  Bring a bit or crochet or hand sewing, or just yourself! Whenever we’re ready we’ll head back to Cafe Passion for a bit to eat.  I should imagine that will be around 1:30-2pm. It will be an easy going afternoon, a little shopping, nattering, and generally catching up and talking all thing sewing.

All in a day’s work!

I don’t talk about my time at work much, what with patient confidentiality and all that.  And also nothing much happens that I think would be worth sharing.   But, and it’s a BIG but,  I’ve had a great day today and I just can’t wait to tell you! Yesterday a pattern arrived in the post so I thought I’d take it to work with me in the hope I’d be able to muster up some enthusiasm to trace off the pieces for the top in my lunch break. Lunch ate & pieces traces off, including fathoming out a sway back adjustment, in 45 minutes.  I decided to do the sway back adj before sewing a muslin as everything I’ve ever made has always needed one, but I’ve never thought to do it before the first fit. And then it happened.  I got a call to a patient at the Fabberdashery in Halifax. “The What” I thought.  Never heard of it, but I was soon on my way. Once the patient was safely on her way to hospital I had …

The Yorkshire Spoolette’s 2nd Meet-Up

Well, I needn’t have worried! All those restless nights were worth it! I even dreamt one night that I couldn’t even blog about today because I forgot to go! It wasn’t just me who was a bit nervous.  I mean, we hear it all the time on the news.  The dangers of meeting strangers online that might not be who you think they are!!  Gosh, if our kids had known what we’d  been up to today!! So at 10:30am I met with a lovely bunch of ladies, who did not feel like strangers at all, and we didn’t stop talking or shopping until 4pm tonight! We gathered together at Kenny’s Bistro – a newly opened cafe that’s done out lovely and very reasonable – 85p for a toasted currant tea cake!!  More money to be spent on fabric!! The staff were lovely and didn’t mind us rearranging the table and chairs so we could all gather round. We had a little fabric and pattern swap whilst I worked out some of the milages how far those on …

The Yorkshire Spoolettes – Who’s Going & Something For Those Who Can’t

It’s only 9 sleeps until the Yorkshire Spoolettes meet up in Dewsbury.  Thankyou to all of you who said you can make it. There’s a great bunch of ladies going but unfortunately due to distance there’s a whole lot of you who can’t. That got me thinking, and I contacted Fabworks to see if they would like to sponsor a competition on my blog for those who can’t go, and they said YES!!! So, here’s out it will work. I’m going to let you know who’s going to the meet up.  You need to work out (or guess!!) the total  mileage travelled to Dewsbury by all who attended on the day.  The mileage will be worked out from each persons home to Fabworks.   I’ll list who is going.  Then you can look them up and come to some sort of figure of how far you think everyone has travelled.  On the day of the meet up I will ask each one how far they’ve travelled and work out the total mileage.   To give you a …
