The Big Vintage Sewalong – Vogue 9082

There’s nothing quite like a challenge to get the sewing and blogging juices flowing.  More so when it’s raising money for a very worthy charity. This year  for the BIG Vintage Sewalong there’s 20 patterns from Retro Butterick, McCall’s and Vogue to choose from. A donation from every sale will be made to The Eve Appeal – a charity rising awareness and funding research in the 5 gynaecological cancers.   Last year over £8000 was raised for the same charity through sales of the Walkaway Dress! I drooled over almost every pattern, but my final choice was influenced by an invititaiton to my niece’s wedding in September.   As I usually have to make 2 or 3 muslins I wanted this dress to be something special, rather than something to be just worn once then stuck at the back of the wardrobe. I love the tea dress look and the nipped waist, but short of wearing a ridiulously tight corset a nipped in waist is out of the question. Vogue 9082 grabbed me the most, and …

Normal Service Will Resume Shortly

Or so I’m hoping.   What’s normal though!?  Posting my Sunday Sevens on a Sunday wouldn’t be normal for me! Well anyway, here’s a final catchup, a sort of extended Sunday Sevens and then I’m hoping to get some order into my life blog.  So without any more waffling on or excuses….. H had his annual football (soccer) presentation night.  It’s a big event and the kids range from 6 to 18.   Each year they hire out the Frontier Nightclub in Batley, more famously in the past known as the Batley Variety Club where Shirley Bassey and the Jackson Five and loads of other famous people performed back in the day! You can tell H was mortified that I’d snook up to take his photo.  He won the award for “players’ player”, voted by him fellow team mates.  #proudmum! Topped up the tan wearing my bikini whilst doing the ironing. Harrison had his birthday.  Alfie his cousin made him a birthday cake.  (that’s not his cousin in the pic tho!) Me & my sis’ One of H’s …

The Amber Trousers by Paprika Patterns

Back in May Kat Hardisty from The Monthly Stitch and Muse Patterns got in touch and asked if I’d like to join in something new for Indie Pattern Month.   In return for being given a pattern bundle I was asked to make one or more of the six garments and tell you all about it.   I chose the Getaway Bundle.  At the time of choosing I had no idea what patterns would be included, but as I was going away on holiday in June I was sure there would be something I’d want to make. And there was! It was all a bit exciting and if I’d have had time I’d had made at least 4 of the garments.  I’ve already got the Islander Jacket Express pattern traced off (from at least 18 months ago!!) but not gotten round to making it!   But time wasn’t on my side so I first off the Amber Trousers. The trousers were made in time for my hols but due to extremely hot weather I never wore them (the lowest …

Sunday Sevens 64, MeMadeMay & The Spoolettes Visit Halifax

In other words it’s a photo heavy catch up of what I’ve been up to in May. Errrm, where do I start? Almost a whole month without blogging! It’s not that i’ve lost my sew-jo or blog-jo, or would that be blo-jo, I’ve just been busy getting fit and playing lots of golf.  And I feel so much better for it.  I’ve lost 12 pounds and 9 inches!  Now all I need to do is try and get a balance in my life with my family and everything else I love to do.  So I thought I’d do a round up of May incorporating everything I’ve been up to, so really it’s a bit like a big Sunday Sevens.  I’ve still been sewing, not quite as intense as usual but the main thing I’ve struggled with is reading all my favourite bloggers’ posts. Hopefully over the next week whilst  I’m on holiday I’ll find to catch up – fingers crossed there’ll be wifi. My Me Mad May effort was poor. Well, it was the …

#SundaySevens 63

Slightly earlier than last week’s Sunday Sevens but only just! I spotted this lady whilst doing a road side stand by at work.  It’s not  just me that has busy days – at least i usually have time to get dressed before I go out!!  I think the onesie craze changed everyone’s view of night wear and it’s seen out and about more and more! H had a problem with his foot, but luckily big H (my H is little H – or was!!) loves manky feet and had him walking on fresh air in no time!  (it’s my sister if anyone’s local and is in need of any foot care, or just a tidy up ready for summer). Sometimes I just can’t help taking snaps of a suddenly unexpected views – another one from Happy Valley. And here’s something else unexpected which made me chuckle, this time in Huddersfield – you can just about make the sign out in the bottom right hand window. The weekend was I think my busiest ever.  We had an …

#SundaySevens 62

Is Thursday the new Sunday? I considered doing a double bill this coming Sunday as I’m so late with last weeks’ Sunday Sevens but I thought better of it and here I am. Monday and Tuesday were non-eventful – I worked.  Then Wednesday I met with a few of the Yorkshire Spoolettes in Halifax – separate post to come soon.  Thursday I had my first A team match (and won!) ……… the bluebells around the 10th green were in full bloom and smelt gorgeous too. I resisted steak pie and chips after golf as I was meeting some work buddies and going out for a Chinese in the evening.  We’ve decided that we’re going to have night out the first Thursday of the month and celebrate birthdays or just have a night out.  We had 4 birthdays last week, including David who was over from America who is mad into horses.  Look at this for a birthday cake! And here we all are……… I was driving at I’d arranged to attend a Atrial …

#SundaySevens 61

Here’s my Sunday Sevens – a few photos from my last week, linking in with Natalie from Threads and Bobbins, and all the other lovely Sunday Seveners. A little bit late I’m afraid but I thought I’d best update my blog otherwise those of you who read regularly might think I’ve done a Shirley Valentine and stayed in Portugal! Here we are then, if even you thought golf was boring and didn’t fancy it, read on…. it might be a good walk spoilt to some but it’s also a great excuse to jump on a plane for some sunshine! The view from our apartment on the first morning……. the view from inside reception as we waited for our minibus to take us to the golf course. I won on the first day! The winner had to wear pink deely boppers for the whole evening and at breakfast the next morning.   I didn’t have to wear the doggy eye covers though! Helen sadly came last on the first day and had to wear the golf ball deely …

#SundaySevens 60

I’m being prepared and writing my Sunday Sevens on Friday night with a glass of wine.  I’m all packed up, except for my making bag and setting off to the airport at 5:30 in the morning.  So I’m hoping this scheduling lark will work and it’s Sunday when you’re reading this. The week started with our first works Golf Day, which also happened to be Captain’s Day.  For some crazy unknown reason I took no photos, which is really stupid as I’m captain so should at least have had one of me presenting the trophy to the winner. Tuesday was the high light of my week.  Already told you all about it but still worth another mention! Wednesday before work at 4pm I had my hair “done”! Bit of a lovely sunset going on Wednesday evening. I toyed with the idea or shortening some wide leg pants and love the result – hopefully will have a pic of them being worn for you next week. Had my nails done all sparkly ready for my hols. …

Reflection

Gosh, this was a really tough one for me.  I’d had to go back to 2011 in my photos to find some ‘reflection’ photos.  These were taken at Harewood House in North Yorkshire.  Definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in the area.   Linking in again with the 52 Week Photo Challenge from: Nanacathydotcom Rainbow Junkie The Aran Artisan Wild Daffodil

Spoolettes Next Meet Up Details

Hi Just a quickie, I’m playing catch in in advance of everything before I go on my holidays in the morning! Sorry, I don’t mean to rub it in, but that’s my excuse for this being short and sweet. Our next Spoolettes meet up is on Wednesday 4th May in Halifax. We’ll meet around 11am at Cafe Passion and drink coffee and say our ‘Hellos’ 12 noon we’ll head to The Fabbadashery to swoon over their fabric and all the other goodies dotted around.  There’s also a large table which they use for their classes. It will be free so we can sit and natter.  Bring a bit or crochet or hand sewing, or just yourself! Whenever we’re ready we’ll head back to Cafe Passion for a bit to eat.  I should imagine that will be around 1:30-2pm. It will be an easy going afternoon, a little shopping, nattering, and generally catching up and talking all thing sewing.
