#SEWDOWNDEWSBURY -a photo speaks a thousand words

Hey there!   You all asked to take lots of piccies, so we did!  I’ll keep the words brief, or I won’t have time to post (I don’t watch much TV but Broadchurch is on in 15 minutes!!) First just a few thankyous!  To my lovely prefects for helping everything run smoothly….Hila, Karen and Karen.  I’m so lucky that these ladies live close to me and are real life friends now, as well as on the screen!   Karen and Karen – how crazy is it that these 2 discovered whilst doing their goodie bag duties that they were in the same class at high school!!  So as well as having a sewists meet up, little did I know that I’d organised a school reunion!! We took over a section of the pub, it seated about 28, but before long there was standing room only. The goodie bag swap went down really well – I’ll write a separate post for that as there’s the competition for you to win one too to announce!         …

#SEWDOWNDEWSBURY – an update and teasing you with more photos!

Only 3 sleeps for you guys!  I’m not sure how to count mine as I’m working the night shift tonight and tomorrow so it’ll be 2 ish I think!   It’s all getting just too exciting! So I thought I’d write a short post as I keep thinking of things to tell you! I’ve been down Dewsbury today to make sure Weatherspoons have saved us a corner.  They have – we’ll all be directly on your right as soon as you walk in.   Errm, what else.   Have you made a badge?   Like the goodie bag swap badge making isn’t compulsory.  I only just traced mine off last night (using just my iPhone and a frixion pen)  and am hoping to do a quick running stitch over the fancy writing and then stitch it to something a bit more substantial.  Not sure when this is going to happen, I’ve not even hemmed my Moneta yet!  And I’ve not got a goodie bag  to put my goodies in!  Oh my, I really need to …

#sewdowndewsbury – A Giveaway for those who can’t make it!

Last year when the Spoolettes got together down Dewsbury for a day of sewcialising I ran a little competition/giveaway and prizes were awarded to 2 ladies who guessed the closest to the total mileage of how far everyone had travelled. Tialys (international winner!) guessed 655 and Sam (UK winner) guessed 666.  The total mileage was 671. This year there will another giveaway with the same format, but the prizes will be different.  Attendees are taking part in a goodie bag swap and quite a few have said they will bring something extra on the day for the Giveaway Prize Goodie Bag. So I will make up 2 Goodie Bags … one for a UK winner and one for an international winner.  The contents of the goodie bags are totally unknown at the minute, but I imagine they will be totally amazing! After the meet up I’ll open up the giveaway and you’ll be able to leave your guess of how far everyone has travelled in the comments. To help you I’m going to add a list of who’s going and links to their blog …

Dewsbury Meet Up & A Hike around Haworth – an update!

Not long now ladies! I’m counting the sleeps, and I know a few others who are too!! Can you believe it!? Our next meet up now has international status! Chris who blogs at Hand Made By Chris – Said & Done could no longer cope with missing out on all the fun in Yorkshire and will be joining us all the way from Germany!! Her flights have been booked and I’m so excited to be meeting my Jumping Into June  partner in crime! She’s staying in Yorkshire the whole weekend, and on Sunday we’re arranging another  meet up in Haworth for those of you who want to stretch their legs, enjoy the Yorkshire countryside and maybe a pub lunch! Bring your friends, partners, children & dogs – everyone’s welcome! It will be a proper walk though, so won’t be suitable for push chairs – one of my friends who lives there has suggested Penistone, Top Withens and Stanbury if you want to google where we’ll be walking.  He’s just checking his shifts and may even be our tour guide …

Save The Date For The Next Dewsbury Meet-up

Yay!   It finally arrived at 11:19 last night! The email letting me know for definite the big changes that would affect my shift pattern and when they will take affect from. That can only mean one thing… A date for the next Spoolette’s meet up can now be set!  I didn’t want to do it before knowing as I’d be gutted if I arranged it and then couldn’t even go myself! Saturday 25th February 2017 We’ll be meeting at the same cafe as last year but in the afternoon instead of going to Weatherspoons I’m thinking we might go to the pub at the train station instead.  I’m going got make a trip to Dewsbury in the next week or so to let Fabworks and Lucky Fashions know to expect a stampede of fabric starved ladies, and to check out meeting places. If you’ve not been before it’s a time to spend a fews hours laughing, admiring and stroking (clothes of fellow Spoolettes) and generally having a fab day with people who you’ll feel you’ve known for …

The Harrogate Knitting & Stitching Show and The #BVSEWALONG Afternoon Tea

I thought I’d share with you my whole day as those of you like me who have never been to anything like this will be wondering if you should make the journey and go to one near you (the show not the Tea Party – the Tea Party is a bonus!) So how do you start your day if you’re going to be attending a Vintage Tea Party? With your hair in rollers of course! (Excuse the bare back, at least it’s not the front!) When I bought my ticket for the Tea Party a few weeks ago my initial plan was to go on my own.  But then I mentioned it to a Glen & Mags who I play golf with and they really wanted to go too so we all travelled together. When we arrived we headed for a coffee first, there was a bit of queue, it was so busy, so be prepared to queue for the loo and refreshments if you’re heading there in the next 3 days. There’s a few …

Sew Up North

You nearly got Sunday Sevens on time.   Only nearly! But I’m too excited still about my day yesterday attending Sew Up North, so I just have to tell you about that first. Sew Up North?   Don’t tell me you don’t know about it.  It has even made it to the Foldline’s Sew Reporter news roundup this week!!   Becca from REDWSEWS and Sally from Sew sweet by Sally arranged a northern meet up in Leeds…..and I went!   Yay for Leeds being on my doorstep! And yay for Becca and Sally!! So yesterday was an early start.  Not because I had a long journey, but because I needed to finish off my Renfrew and colour my roots before I could set off to meet all the sewing lovelies in Leeds at 10 o’clock.  Sewing the Renfrew was more of a necessity than the roots although I didn’t want my silver roots to match my top! At 9:15 I was on the bus with my little liberty bag for the pattern swap.  I took …

Sewbrum 2016

Back in March Charlotte from English Girl At Home revealed the date for Sewbrum 2016.  I was so giddy when I checked my shift planner – it was my week end off I and could go!! For those of you who haven’t heard of Sewbrum, and that can’t be many, even my mum’s heard of Sewbrum, it’s a day out socialising, shopping and eating cake with lovely like minded people. I had been gutted to miss Sewbrum 2014 and 2015 as the dates just didn’t work for me, but this year it was 3rd time lucky! I’d never been to a meet up before, well only the little Yorkshire Spoolette ones I had organised earlier this year and last year.  And none of the other Yorkshire Spoolettes were going so I was going to be going on my own. And then Becca from Redwsew said she was going so we booked on the same trains.  I’d met Becca in real life earlier this year at the Fabbadashery so it wasn’t too scary as I wasn’t going to …

When Jenny Met Ali

I’ve 3 blog post on my to-do list and half an hour to spare.  So first up and straight to the top of the list and bypassing my belated Sunday Sevens is when Harry met Sally, oops I mean when Jenny met Ali!   It has a similar ring to it though don’t you think! The whole blogging and sewcial media scene has changing my lonely hobby into something really exciting, and I’ve friendships blossoming all over the world.  I’ve already met some of my new sewing buddies in real life but the chances of meeting those from outside of the UK are pretty slim. But then Jen – from Let The Sewing Begin -mentioned she was going to be holidaying in South Wales.  Not anywhere near Yorkshire, but we just HAD to meet up.  I checked out where Jenny was staying and tried to find somewhere in the middle which would be easy for us both to get to.  We eventually decided on Chester – it was about 2 1/2 hours each by train AND …

Sunday Sevens 64, MeMadeMay & The Spoolettes Visit Halifax

In other words it’s a photo heavy catch up of what I’ve been up to in May. Errrm, where do I start? Almost a whole month without blogging! It’s not that i’ve lost my sew-jo or blog-jo, or would that be blo-jo, I’ve just been busy getting fit and playing lots of golf.  And I feel so much better for it.  I’ve lost 12 pounds and 9 inches!  Now all I need to do is try and get a balance in my life with my family and everything else I love to do.  So I thought I’d do a round up of May incorporating everything I’ve been up to, so really it’s a bit like a big Sunday Sevens.  I’ve still been sewing, not quite as intense as usual but the main thing I’ve struggled with is reading all my favourite bloggers’ posts. Hopefully over the next week whilst  I’m on holiday I’ll find to catch up – fingers crossed there’ll be wifi. My Me Mad May effort was poor. Well, it was the …
